When painting, I am often hesitant to paint the background. Even if I am no longer limited by the thought of “painting with background is more like a complete painting, while without background is more like an illustration”, according to my own preference, leaving blank space can better highlight the non-white theme, but it is also easy to feel monotonous. So recently I found the compromise — leave the background blank but add other objects; or not fill the background completely but cover it with abstract color blocks, and use some special media to create patterns. The style tends to blur the lines between painting and illustration, which is an result of an interesting and natural shift.
